Under the broader framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in close coordination with other UN agencies, UNDP is supporting Afghan people’s aspiration for peace, prosperity, and sustainability.

UNDP has launched a “Digital Solutions for Recovery” project in 2024 to pilot and promote digital solutions for recovery in Afghanistan, aligning with UNDP’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan recognizing digitalization as a critical enabler, in collaboration with the private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs), and development partners. The project builds on past digitalization, community empowerment, and inclusive economic development initiatives. It serves as a starting point for UNDP's longer-term objectives, including:

Analyzing and aligning private sector workforce requirements with a pool of highly qualified personnel to strategically map skills and expertise.

·       

Implementing digital courses for young individuals, providing them with practical skills in ICT and access to internships and job opportunities.

·       

Promoting the startup ecosystem by creating an enabling environment for innovation, offering supportive infrastructure, resources, and networks to empower emerging businesses and contribute to overall entrepreneurial growth.

 

The Graphic Design and Monitoring Associate will work in close coordination with the UNDP “Digital Solutions for Recovery” project and will be responsible for providing technical support to designing project materials of digital interventions within the project, as well as providing designing services to other projects. S/he works under the guidance and supervision of the UNDP “Digital Solutions for Recovery” Project Manager and in close collaboration with team members. The incumbent will also work closely with partners, UN Agencies, technical advisors and experts, and civil society to help implement project activities in promoting digitalization.

 

His/her main responsibility is to design project materials and assist in collecting data from the field and survey. S/he will assist in coordinating between UNDP and stakeholders on implementation of the activities expected on digitalization and innovation. The incumbents will be assisting the UNDP “Digital Solutions for Recovery” project in coordination with project implementation on digital related activities. The incumbents will be responsible for providing full support in implementation of the UNDP “Digital Solutions for Recovery” project digitalization activities and necessary technical assistance will be provided from the project.

Scope of work: The Graphic Design and Monitoring Associate will undertake the following to ensure the success of the project:

 

·        Develop a cohesive visual identity that aligns with the project’s mission of recovery and digital transformation in Afghanistan. ·        Create engaging graphics for digital platforms and print materials (reports, brochures, banners, booklets) to communicate the project’s goals effectively. ·        Design clear and compelling infographics to present complex recovery data (economic, social, or infrastructure progress) in an accessible way for stakeholders. ·        Ensure all designs respect Afghan cultural norms, incorporate local aesthetics where appropriate, and are available in relevant languages (Dari, Pashto, etc.). ·        Collaborate in mapping existing educational institutions, stakeholders, platforms, private sector companies interested in promoting digitalization and exploring possible partnership. ·        Develop relevant supporting documents within the topics of innovation and digitalization that are applicable in the context of Afghanistan. ·        Provide support on conducting national/regional campaigns, launching initiatives, roundtables and events. ·        Provide technical support on implementation of digitalization activities in line with the project strategy including stakeholder consultation, community participation. ·        Assist in development of lessons learnt document, articles and success stories related to digitalization and innovation.  ·        Support to prepare capacity development materials on digitalization and innovation; provide technical support in conducting capacity building initiatives. ·        Coordinate with partners and stakeholders in the process of implementing digital initiatives. ·        Regular visits will be required within selected project sites identified on digitalization. ·        Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor.

 

Institutional arrangement: The Graphic Design and Monitoring Associate will work under the supervision and guidance of the “Digital Solutions for Recovery” Project Manager and in close collaboration with project team. Advice and support will also be provided by the UNDP CO Programme team.

 

Payment: Monthly bases Duration of the assignment: 3 months (May 20 to August 20, 2025) Duty station: Kabul city, Afghanistan.

 

Experience and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Information and Communication Technologies, Graphic Design, or related fields.

 

Experience and Skills:

·        Minimum of 3 years with Bachelor’s degree relevant experience in graphic design and implementation of digital and innovation related projects/programme. ·        Proven experience in graphic designing software and art, specially designing standard booklets and other graphical materials. ·        Previous experience of working with community-based NGOs and private sector companies is an asset.

 

Competencies:

  • Exceptional interpersonal, digital, and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical abilities with clear verbal presentation skills
  • Advanced proficiency in industry-standard design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and CorelDRAW)
·        Extensive experience in print design, including booklet layout and print production preparation
  • A good team player, self-starter, can work under minimum supervision and maintain good relationships.

 

Language Requirements: Proficiency in written and spoken English and fluency in local languages, Pashto and Dari is required.
