The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) was established in 1964 as an intergovernmental organization intended to promote the interests of developing states in world trade.
UNCTAD is the part of the United Nations Secretariat dealing with trade, investment, and development issues. The organization's goals are to: "maximize the trade, investment and development opportunities of developing countries and assist them in their efforts to integrate into the world economy on an equitable basis". UNCTAD was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1964 and it reports to the UN General Assembly and United Nations Economic and Social Council.
The primary objective of UNCTAD is to formulate policies relating to all aspects of development including trade, aid, transport, finance and technology.
Summary:Under the direct supervision of Exemption/ASYREC Project Manager, the incumbent will be primarily engaged in assisting the Exemption/ASYREC Project related activities in the UNCTAD Afghanistan, in consideration with rules and regulations defined by the United Nations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Conduct tests and assessments of Customs Exemption/ASYREC electrical systems and repairs to ensure quality and un-interrupted Customs network. 2.Utilise and store all Customs equipment properly. 3. Assemble and install electrical panels and Customs electrical equipment. 4.Respond quickly to service requests and troubleshoot and repair electrical systems. 5.Perform preventative maintenance on a regular schedule of all electrical equipment. 6.Assembling, evaluating, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, and apparatus. 7.Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning equipment, appliances, and apparatus. 8.Constructing and fabricating parts, using hand tools and specifications. 9.Reading and interpreting electrical and electronic circuit blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. 10.Ordering of electrical supplies and equipment as per the need. 11. Any other task as assigned by the line Supervisor.Monitoring and evaluation: ability to monitor and check the systems in daily bases and resolve the technical issue in case there is any.
Professionalism:Good technical, analytical and communication skills, and be full familiar with the electrical aspects of the customs systems. Planning and Organizing:Proven ability to establish priorities and to implement their daily activities in the best possible way.
Creativity:Ability to actively seek to improve programmes/services, offer new and different options to solve problems/meet client needs.
Teamwork: Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.Job Location: · Kabul with travels to the provinces (the official travel expense will be paid by UNCTAD.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical science, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering and other relevant fields.
Experience: 1-3 years of work experience managing the electrical system operations of a larger organization At least 2 years, from total technical experience, in managing operations of Customs electrical systems will be as an advantage.
Computer Skills:
Working knowledge and experience using Ms. Windows, and Ms. Office.
Language Requirement:
Strong knowledge in written and spoken national languages (Pashto and Dari) are required. Familiarity with English language will be an advantage.
