UNDP Afghanistan Mission Statement:

UNDP is the leading United Nations organization fighting to end the injustice of poverty, inequality, and climate change. Working with our broad network of experts and partners in 170 countries, we help nations to build integrated, lasting solutions for people and planet. UNDP has been working in Afghanistan for more than 50 years on climate change and resilience, gender, governance, health, livelihood, and rule of law. Under the broader framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in close coordination with other UN agencies, UNDP is supporting Afghan people’s aspiration for peace, prosperity, and sustainability. UNDP is currently implementing its flagship crisis response programme, ABADEI (Area Based Approach to Development Emergency Initiatives), as part of the ongoing UN-led response to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and the breakdown of Afghanistan’s economy following the August 2021 shift in power.

As part of the UN’s ongoing crisis response to prevent humanitarian catastrophe and economic collapse following the August 2021 shift in power, UNDP is implementing its flagship programme, ABADEI (Area-Based Approach to Development Emergency Initiatives). The ABADEI Strategy applies an area-based integrated approach that safeguards livelihoods, strengthens community resilience, and complements short-term humanitarian assistance with recovery-oriented interventions. It focuses on poverty reduction, climate resilience, social cohesion, and rehabilitation of small-scale infrastructure critical for basic human needs.

Background and Objective of the assignment:

Following the recent earthquake in Eastern Afghanistan, Kunar and Nangarhar Provinces, UNDP Afghanistan is supporting affected communities through emergency response and early recovery interventions aimed at restoring livelihoods, rebuilding infrastructure, and strengthening resilience. To ensure proper documentation and visibility of these efforts, UNDP seeks short-term communications support based in Jalalabad, with frequent field missions to Kunar and other affected districts.

The consultant will help capture human-interest stories, social media content, and visual materials that highlight both the impact of the earthquake and UNDP’s on-the-ground response in partnership with local communities and donors.

Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities:

·

Content Development:

- Develop human-interest stories and beneficiary profiles reflecting the impact of UNDP’s support.

- Draft short articles, blogs, and social media posts in English (and/or local languages if needed).

- Ensure content aligns with UNDP’s visibility and donor communication standards.

·

Photography and Videography:

- Capture high-quality photos and short video clips from the field showcasing affected communities, response activities, and recovery progress.

- Produce short, engaging video stories (1–3 minutes) suitable for UNDP’s social media and website.

- Ensure all visuals meet UNDP quality and consent requirements.

·

Social media and Visibility Support:

- Provide ready-to-use social media content packages (captions, visuals, hashtags).

- Support real-time updates during missions or events where relevant.

- Assist in preparing banners, quotes, and visual templates for donor visibility.

·

Coordination and Field Engagement:

- Coordinate closely with UNDP field colleagues, implementing partners, and local authorities.

- Travel as required to earthquake-affected areas for documentation purposes.

·
