I. About Darya

Funded by International Finance Corporation (IFC), Darya is a startup incubation and

business acceleration program designed to foster the creation and growth of

businesses in Afghanistan. Darya’s objectives are to:

● Create new, viable startups that generate new employment opportunities in

Afghanistan.

● Scale up existing enterprises to create additional employment opportunities.

Darya has two components:

Component I: Startup Ecosystem Assessment

The Startup Ecosystem Assessment provides a holistic view of the startup ecosystem

through in-depth qualitative interviews with key stakeholders including startup founders,

business associations and networks, international NGOs, government officials, and

similar support providers. The assessment is meant to produce fresh insights about the

current state of affairs for startups by identifying key challenges, opportunities, and

recommendations for improving the startup ecosystem in Afghanistan.

Component II: Startup Incubation & Business Acceleration

The Startup Incubation and Business Acceleration will bring onboard 100 businesses in

Afghanistan to receive a complete suite of services that will catalyze growth and

creation of sustainable employment in the private sector.

Job Purpose Darya program’s innovation is in the provision of tailored

services to each business based on their particular needs

identified in the initial in-depth assessment at the beginning of

each cohort. In the Darya program, coaching is defined as

provision of the set of technical, management, and industry-

specific, hands-on services to each participating entrepreneur

from day one of their enrollment until the completion of the

program. Darya’s Business Coaches lead the coaching

services based on their own qualifications and experiences in

provision of support services to MSMEs in Afghanistan.

The coaching services are provided to each entrepreneur

based on the Business Improvement Plans that result from

the in-depth assessment of each business as part of their

enrollment to the Darya program. The Business Improvement

Plans serve as a living document and roadmap for the

entrepreneurs and their assigned business coaches

throughout the program.

The selected Woman Business Coaches will be responsible for the following key tasks:

3.1. Business Training and Mentorship:

● Provide high-level coaching and mentorship to businesses, MSMEs, startups, and

entrepreneurs.

● Offer guidance on various aspects of business development, strategy, and

management, with a focus on marketing, product design, supply chain

management, Access to Finance, Business Development Services, and related

areas.

● Help businesses identify and address challenges and opportunities within their

operations.

● Assist in developing and implementing strategies for sustainable growth.

3.2. Curriculum Development:

● Contribute to the development and improvement of learning tools and materials.

● Collaborate with the project team to design and update training programs and

resources, ensuring they reflect the practical needs of businesses, MSMEs,

startups, and entrepreneurs.

● Ensure that training materials align with current industry best practices and

emerging trends in marketing, product design, supply chain management, A2F,

and BDS.

3.3. Direct Coaching:

● Work closely with businesses, MSMEs, startups, and entrepreneurs on a one-on-

one basis to address their specific needs and challenges.

● Provide practical advice and solutions to enhance daily business operations, with

a focus on tangible improvements.

● Implement personalized coaching plans tailored to the unique requirements of

each entity, aimed at improving beneficiary-level outcomes.

3.4. Business Enhancement:

● Assist businesses, MSMEs, startups, and entrepreneurs in identifying areas for

improvement and innovation, particularly in marketing, product design, supply

chain management, A2F, and BDS.

● Foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptation within these entities.

● Help entities develop strategies to increase productivity, profitability, and overall

success, specifically focusing on enhancing outcomes for beneficiaries.

4. Deliverables:

The Business Coaches are expected to produce the following outcomes:

● Regular reports on the progress and achievements of the businesses, MSMEs,

startups, and entrepreneurs they are coaching, with a clear emphasis on

beneficiary-level improvements.

● Updated and improved training materials tailored to the practical needs of these

entities in marketing, product design, supply chain management, A2F, and BDS.

● Testimonials and success stories from these entities that have experienced

substantial beneficiary-level enhancements as a result of their coaching.

5. Reporting Structure:

The Business Coaches will report to the Team Leader and Master Accelerator of the

Darya Project. They will work closely with the project team, businesses, MSMEs,

startups, and entrepreneurs involved in the program.
